EISC and CMSC Chicago Week in Jackson Hole

Mary Day | Published on 6/1/2024

Even though EISC can no longer support two ski trips west on our own, we would like to offer alternatives to our skiers. As a member of the Chicago Metropolitan Ski Council (CMSC)  we are entitled to share in their Ski Trips. CMSC Chicago Week 2025 will take place in Jackson Hole, WY from February 22 - March 1. Chicago Week involves about 200 skiers from all the member clubs. We must sign up as a Club. Lodging is at Cowboy Village Resort, Elk Country Inn, and the '49er Inn and Suites. Lodging is on a first come, first serve basis in the order of a Club's application to CMSC.

The approximate cost of the trip is $2189. This includes Group Air out of Chicago, Transportation to and from the airport, 7 nights lodging, 5-day lift ticket, Welcome Reception, Mountain Lunch and Race, Pub Crawl, 2 Apres Ski parties, Dinner Banquet with music and dancing, and shuttle to the mountain. If our Club brings 10 people, CMSC will arrange air transportation from Cedar Rapids. This may make a difference in the cost. Skiers have the option for a 6-day lift ticket, and a four-day lift ticket. Other options include travel insurance, a National Elk Refuge Sleigh Ride, a possible day at Grand Targhee, a possible day at Snow King, and Snowmobile Tours.

There are other factors which can affect your price. If you are a non-skier or IKON pass holder, the package is reduced by $695. If you are over 65; you get a $120 discount. If you are under 65 and want to ski on a 6th day add $140, but if you are over 65, it is $112.

Jackson Hole is known for steep skiing, gorgeous scenery in 2500 acres of skiable terrain. The base elevation is 6311 feet and it has a 10,450 -foot summit. There are 133 named trails. 10% of the trails are beginner, 40% intermediate and 50% expert. It is my understanding, there will be a special deal for those who only want to ski green. If my memory serves me, a lot of the greens were pretty challenging for the Mary Day Level skier.

The town of Jackson Hole itself is great for the time when you are not skiing. Western Art Galleries, shops, bars and restaurants are all delights. My favorite sculpture came from Jackson Hole, as well as my custom-made moose hide mukluks.

For this trip, the Club needs to commit sooner rather than later. If this trips your trigger, sign the interest sheet at the picnic or contact me
