Soup and Chili Cookoff Recap

Tim Gull | Published on 1/29/2025

The long anticipated, highly competitive chili cookoff finally arrived. Sixty-eight ski club members attended this aromatic event. With outside air temperatures of 7 degrees the group got down to business tasting the wide assortment of culinary delights. There was Every Day Chili, Kick’n Creole Gumbo, Clam Chowder, No Heart Burn Chili, Potato Soup, Rice and Luben, Lebanese Chili, Wild Rice Soup, Pea Soup and whole host of tasty pleasures.

As VP Steve Cummings finished the recap of recent and future trips, all eyes were on the judges. Tension was building as the judges emerged from their chambers to announce the winners of the coveted 2025 Chili Cookoff Championship. This year’s winner was Loretta Conrey with the No Bean Chili.  Who would have thought chili without beans would win this coveted award?  She chose a fine red full-bodied wine for her outstanding accomplishment. Denny Bossard aka "big ole fish, Buddy Roe" (as seen on TV) won the soup category with his Comforting Chicken Noodle. There were many other notable winners.

Out of nowhere a Hallmark love story appeared.  Brad Hess announced that he met the love of his life, his wife Kay, 32 years ago at the ski club chili cook off. Congratulations you guys!  We all love a happy ending.

We are all happiest when we have something positive to look forward to.  The ski club friends, trips and events help fill that void.  Let’s continue that optimism by welcoming Rosanne and her side kick George back to the board and her passion for planning exciting trips!
