Warm up or Learn to Ski day
The EISC has a Trip Leader for the one day, drive yourself or carpool trip to Dubuque’s Sundown Mountain. Chris Kalmar, with assistance from Kim Betts volunteered to lead the Sundown Mountain event after the Oct. Member Meeting @ the Shores Event Center. Thank you Chris and Kim! – without our volunteer trip leaders the club would not be able support the events we all enjoy. The cost of this Sundown Mountain Warm up or Learn to Ski day is a group rate $34 for lift ticket only and $51 for lift ticket, rental and group lesson. We need to get at least 20 people to sign up and attend. Please remember you do not have to be an EISC member to participate in this one day event. This makes it a great opportunity to introduce someone to skiing or have a relative or friend come back to the sport at a relatively low cost and enjoys a great ski day at a fun Midwest ski hill.
Some of the club will meet in the Marion Walmart parking lot to gather up for the easy 1 hour drive over to Sundown Mountain. Other folks just drive themselves over early. The Trip Leaders Chris and Kim will passes out lift tickets in the North Lodge. The club will ski or snowboard from 9:00 until 4:00 at this great local ski area. The rental equipment is fairly new and the instruction is good. Several EISC members have been instructors there over the years. The new equipment rental building is a huge improvement over the earlier set-up. This is the building that hosts the annual Sundown Ski Swap that the club will be participating in this year. Directions from Cedar Rapids: Highway 151 north – follow Hwy. 151 north to just east of Cascade, Iowa. Watch for signs indicating county road Y21 (Sundown Road). Turn left onto Y21 (Sundown Road). Sacred Heart Church is on the corner. Proceed north for approximately 13 miles along Y21 (Sundown Road) to Asbury Road. Turn right onto Asbury Road. Sundown will be approximately ¼ miles on your left.
