Vice President's Message for July

Steve Cummings | Published on 7/2/2024

Greetings East Iowa Ski Club members. I am writing the VP newsletter message for our friend president Marty, who he continues to recover and gain strength. The EISC Spring Picnic was a great time and summer is underway. The Spring Picnic had a good crowd and was a fun time.  Thanks to the Langhoffs for providing their grill and thanks to Dale Bohrer for hauling it to the park. We noticed having the meeting before we started the grill seemed to improved attendance. Although we had to be careful with a hungry crowd.  With so much going on we covered a variety of topics at the meeting. The start of sales for the Whitefish ski trip went very well with 23 of the 32 spots gone already. If you are interested in joining us in Whitefish next Feb 1-8, 2025, please don’t wait. Another ski club asked us for the trip information so some of their members can join us.

The Cardboard Regatta at Ellis Park on Saturday, June 8th went very well.  Becky Fenelon did a great job with the cardboard kayak, provided by Teri Barnhart. Thanks to Todd Eadie for managing this project. The Trout Run Trail bike ride / camping weekend in Decorah went well.  It is a great trail that circles a cool city. Kim has details on the ride in her article.

Coming up in July is the EISC night at the ballpark on Saturday, July 6th with fireworks at the end of the game.  Thanks to Mary Day for organizing and Steve Simmen for running this event.  Thanks to Cathy Dick, who set up the Cassville Ferry Sunset Cruise night for July 13th.  The EISC Golf outing is set for July 20th outing at Meadow View Golf and Country Club in Central City. Thanks to Sandra Cummings for her work on this event.

In administration news, Todd Eadie has gone through and cleaned up the private and public EISC Facebook accounts for both membership and content. When communicating with the board, we are now using board member club email addresses by the board position, rather than by name. The new format is listed on the front page of the Skiddoo. We dropped the email addresses by names to save money. For example, if you want to email Bill Clark to let him know you would like to join the culinary night group for dinner, it has to go to Members@eastiowaskiclub.com. The old email address by name (bill@eastiowaskiclub.com may not work any longer. You may have to change the email address in your directory.

The trip planning committee work continues.  If you have any ideas for new trips, please contact a board member with the details and we will take it to the committee.  Have a great summer and I hope to see you at an event, on the bike trail or golf course.
