Culinary recap for June

Bill Clark | Published on 7/2/2024

Thirteen members attended the June EISC Culinary event at one of Cedar Rapids’ newest eating and drinking establishments, Big Grove Brewery & Taproom.  This was a typical size group.  The restaurant had pushed several tables together, so that there was one long table, with ample room for everyone.  We had a great view of the patio area, which is shared with the Pickle Palace; there are glass garage doors that can be opened for special events (such as live music).  Although they had run out of pretzels (needed for two of their signature dishes), everybody found a dish they enjoyed, with the pulled pork mac & cheese being the most common.  Portion sizes were good, with several people taking home leftovers, and prices were reasonable.  We all enjoyed good food, drinks, and conversation.

The next culinary event will be at SuYu Pei, 3200 16th Ave SW Ste D, Cedar Rapids on Thursday, July 11th at 6:00 pm (across from Walgreens, west of Highway 151).  A large parking lot is available.  Operated by David Pei, who was the manager and head chef at Pei’s Mandarin, for those who remember that place.  Please RSVP to Bill Clark at Members@EastIowaSkiClub.com by Tuesday, July 9th if you are attending.  This will allow us to give the restaurant an accurate count. Thank you!
