Freedom Festival Cardboard Boat Regatta-June 8

The CR Freedom Festival Cardboard Boat Regatta event was brought back after a 14-year hiatus. There was a great crowd and many cardboard boat regatta participants. The event began with two Exhibition events: The first Exhibition event: Riverside Casino Golf Resort with Iowa Women’s Basketball players Hannah Stuelke and Taylor Mcabe versus Z102.9 radio station (Bikini Bottom boat). The second Exhibition event: East Iowa Ski Club in memory of EISC member Steve Sutliff who passed in 2006. Steve Sutliff’s sister, Corrine Slagter, joined us for the event.
Special thanks to Becky Fenelon who piloted the red-white-blue-kayak for the East Iowa Ski Club. Thank you to Teri Barnhart for allowing us to enter the kayak in the event. Thank you to Tim Gull for transporting the kayak, providing cold water bottles and cookies; as well as allowing us to hang out at his boathouse after a fun day of activities. Thank you to Teri Barnhart, Dave Mahkle, Jeff Owen and Wayne Van Gorp for taking pictures. Thank you to everyone who attended the event. The weather was perfect and the event drew hundreds of spectators this year.
