Bike Ride to Solon

Ruth Van Tol | Published on 7/30/2024

On July 19 six EISC members and two guests enjoyed a ride on the CVNT from the Tate Cummings sport complex to Solon. The group made a stop at My Mom’s Bakery in Ely for a morning treat of a slice of quiche, a lemon bar, cinnamon roll or a kolache with a favorite beverage.

The weather conditions were ideal with a partly cloudy sky, a slight southerly breeze and temperatures in the mid 70’s. The prairie plantings along the route were in their prime. Any walkers on the trail could probably hear us coming from a distance. There was a lot of chatter and catching up with news from other riders.

We returned to our starting point by noon with 27 miles completed. Several riders had other commitments for later in the day and headed off to mow lawn, pack for a road trip or visit friends. Four riders headed to The Shack Tavern for lunch and a brew. We discussed some possible future rides.

Once the segment of the trail north of Urbana opens, we may do a ride starting in Center Point and going north. Watch your email. The ride will be posted in the biking forum sometime this fall.
