Vice President's Message-August

Steve Cummings | Published on 7/29/2025

Greetings East Iowa Ski Club members.  I am continuing to fill in with the VP newsletter message for our friend president Marty, who is working on his recovery.  It has been a busy month for club activities. The EISC Golf Outing looked like a rainout, but after a two-hour delay we were able to get it in.  The Lake MacBride golf course is a nice course that drained pretty fast.  Thanks to Todd Eadie for leading the event.  A few folks had to cancel, but for those who golfed, it was a fun time.

Since the last newsletter we got in the EISC night at the ballpark on Saturday, June 28th, with fireworks at the end of the game.  Thanks to Steve Simmen for running this event.  On July 3rd we had a good crowd enjoying the band and fireworks display at the Fireworks & Fireflies event at Lowe Park.  Thanks to Rosanne Van Cura for setting this one up.  Thanks to Bill and Jill Clark who tried a Pickleball Clinic, but had some weather issues.  Thanks to Cathy Dick, who ran the Cassville Ferry Sunset Cruise night. I was unable to attend, but heard it was a great time.

Some of our future events include a day at Lubben’s Winery; a paddle/float day at Kathy Takes’ farm near Cascade and the Corn Roast at Sally William’s farm.  We have 16 members going on the Canadian Rockies Tour and Alaska Cruise leaving Sept. 1st.  We have six on the bus tour only and 10 will be on the inside passage cruise following the Canadian Rockies Tour.  This looks like it will be a great adventure. There are plans for a Memorial Fall bicycle ride on the Trout Run Trail in Decorah in honor of our friend Ron Saboe.  Kim was working on a date for camping and we will plan a Saturday night hotel stay.

The Adventure Trip committee has been reviewing Rosanne Van Cura’s many suggestions for Adventure trips.  Marty is working with Dale on a Black Hills bus tour for this Spring of 2026.  Rosanne has sent several possible cruise options and some cool bike and barge tours for review.  Unfortunately, she keeps running into schedule conflicts with her & George’s extensive Mediterranean, Adriatic and Aegean Sea cruise plans.  The Adventure Trip committee will continue to meet and try to bring out the best trips possible.

On the skiing front - thanks to Chip & Diane Scholl for leading the Steamboat trip Jan 31-Feb 7 and thanks to Kathy Takes & Kari Wheeler for leading the Winter Park Trip Mar 1-Mar 8.  Both are on sale and doing well for this early.  If you are interested in either trip, it would be a good idea to sign up before they fill up. Todd Eadie is working on some Midwest ski trips and should be ready before the September Kickoff Meeting at Morgan Creek Park. As the summer winds down, I hope to see you at an event, on the bike trail or golf course.
