Culinary Night Recap for January

Bill Clark | Published on 2/1/2026

Fifteen members got together for good food, drinks, and conversation on a warm winter’s evening at El Viejo Cedar Rapids. This Mexican restaurant has an extensive dinner menu; no one went away hungry, and many took home leftovers. The beers and margaritas are standard fare; however, the larger-size drinks are served in square glasses, which is unique. The dining experience also includes authentic (although recorded, not live) Mexican music, so those who speak Spanish have an opportunity to brush up on their language skills. Service was a little slow, but that was partly due to the size of the group, and trying to get everyone’s dinner out at about the same time.

Our next get-together will be at 6:00 pm on Tuesday, February 10th at Taste of India (1060 Old Marion Rd NE, Cedar Rapids). The group went here a few years ago. Don’t be put off thinking that the food is very spicy, as you can choose your preferred level of spiciness (1=not very to 5=very very). Please RSVP to Bill Clark at Secretary@EastIowaSkiClub.com or call my cellphone (number available in the members’ directory on the website) by Sunday, February 8th, so that we may give the restaurant an accurate count. Thanks, and look forward to seeing you there!
