Biking, camping, kayaking and exploring 9/22 -9/24

How about an early fall camping/biking/kayaking/exploring weekend in the Quad Cities September 22-24? (Fall begins on September 23!)

Those of us on the board who are not regular campers have found out how difficult it is to find campground spaces available for 8 or more RVs/campers for summer dates if you don’t snag them as soon as they open for reservations and many places have been open for reservations since January 1.

Fisherman’s Corner Campground is a different situation. They release their camp sites 6 months in advance. The date of September 22 was just released this week and there are many sites to choose from. The campground got good reviews last year: being on back waters of the Mississippi, gorgeous sunsets, reasonable pricing, walking distance to a fishing area, and it’s directly on the bike trail.

Most of us did the trail to north and found it wasn’t in the greatest of condition. This time we could head towards the Quad Cities, the I74 Bridge, and also make some stops at some pubs and breweries in the area.

Since snagging camp spots is the most important, go to www.recreation.gov. Enter Fisherman’s Corner. You can then enter the dates of September 22 for arrival and September 24 for checkout (unless you plan to come earlier or stay longer). Quite a few sites from 1 to 20 are available and nearer the water than where most parked last year.

More information for those that prefer to camp at hotel and other details be will provided later.
