Buchanan House Winery – May 22

Roll the tops down on the convertibles, polish up those classics, get those Model A’s in top running condition and come out for a car rally to head to Tipton to the Buchanan House Winery. This adventure will happen on Saturday, May 22.

The Buchanan House Winery has a 16 room historic 19th century mansion that was moved to the current location for the tasting room. The average price for a bottle of their wine is $15. Check out their Facebook page or the winery link above.

Plan to meet at the Marion Walmart between 1:45 and 2:00. David Meyer will have the back roads mapped out for the cruise. We will first head to Christel Fowler’s home at 1011 Ridge View Drive in Tipton. You can unload your lawn chairs and your coolers and check out her back patio area where we can gather after going to the winery. Those members who don’t want to drive their cars on the ½ mile of gravel to the winery can carpool with others. Christel lives just 4.5 miles from the winery.

The winery will not be able to accommodate our group doing wine tasting but they will have an area where we can all be seated together. When the winery serves food to larger groups, orders need to be made well in advance with a large minimum order and the cost was quite steep. So don’t plan to order anything to eat at the winery.  Check out the winery and the gardens, have a glass or two of wine and then the party will move to Christel’s where you can eat what you brought along.

The winery does have a female musician from the Quad Cities scheduled at 6:30 that evening for music so you can head back later if you want to enjoy some outdoor music.

This should be a great time to see some local scenery, taste a local wine and socialize with friends you haven’t seen in a long time.
