August Update:
There are 6 campsites that are reserved, most are staying from Wednesday to Sunday. We are permitted to have up to 2 additional tents for these 6 campsites! So those who wish to drive on down & join us, email or text Kim and she will coordinate. There is a possibility that you may need to park at the overflow lot, but it does seem the sites are large enough to accommodate the tenter's vehicle. Don't miss out on this opportunity to stay in a great campground! We will be at sites 103-107 & 142.
On Saturday, Sept 28 at 9:00am, those staying in the hotel will meet at the Volksweg trailhead, near the Public Library (603 Main St, Pella, IA 50219)
Library Map Link and will start out riding toward the reservoir. The trail runs south from Pella for 3.8 miles to Howell Station Recreation Area – where our campers are staying. The campers will then join us for the remainder of the ride. There is a 1.5-mile section connecting Howell Station to the South Tailwater and Ivans Recreation Areas. Mile markers mark the asphalt surface that extends 12 miles along the north side of Lake Red Rock from Howell Station to Cordova County Park.
The total length of the trail is 17 miles; however, you can turn around wherever you want on the trail. The Iowa Bike Co. on Franklin St does have rentals.
The hotel folks plan to arrive on Friday afternoon, Sept 27 to prepare for the Saturday bicycle ride. The club has 10 rooms (5 dbl. Queens & 5 Kings) reserved at the Baymont Inn and Suites at the reduced rate of $109 per night. The Baymont address is 2104 Washington St, Pella, IA 50219. The phone # is 641-628-0085 to reserve a room. The rooms are under Steven Cummings, EISC. All unused rooms will go back Sept 16. This hotel is about a mile from the Volksweg trailhead and downtown. There are many other options for staying in Pella, if you prefer to stay on your own.
Update on the campers: we have each reserved sites 103-107 and 142 for a total of 11 members camping. Let Kim know if you want to camp.
Campers, plan to reserve campsites 104-110 which are along the river (the map says these are not reservable-but I found I could reserve them when I tested the website). They open up six months in advance rolling day by day. So, it is critical you reserve your site
on March 26 when the September 26-29th days opens up. You can then reserve that day and the days after it. Contact Kim for more information and if you want a reminder. You can reserve 4 sites using one credit card & registration.
