Greetings EISC Members!
I am filling in for president Marty this month as he is working on all of the upcoming adventure travel excursions while trying to get healthy and stronger to better enjoy those trips. If you came to the November Member Meeting at the KC Hall you heard about the trip updates and had an opportunity to sign up for the New Orleans trip with Trip Leaders Brenda and Wayne Van Gorp. This was the first chance to sign up and it went very well. Please hurry, if you are interested in joining the fun on this April trip. I believe the September Canadian Rockies and optional Inside Passage Cruise trip with Trip Leader Diane Reinertson is full now.
Besides the Adventure travel opportunities, we got to enjoy a new ski equipment presentation by Brett, one of the managers from Scheels Sporting Good in Iowa City store. A big thanks to board member Todd Eadie for setting up this entertaining presentation.
Trip Leader Ruth Van Tol covered some of the Glacier Park side trips that are available on the February Whitefish Ski trip. We will be staying at the Lodge on Whitefish Lake with more opportunities for activities than we usually see on ski trips. That is a uniquely scenic and exciting ski area and next to Glacier National Park. The snow ghosts and fog inversions in the mountains make it a truly magical place.
The two Midwest Ski Trips are scheduled and being sold. The club has been requesting more Midwest ski trip opportunities so we have a January trip to Baraboo, Wisconsin skiing Devils Head one day and Cascade Mountain the next. Todd Eadie will be leading the skiing and Lori Huff is in charge of the of the snowshoe / XC fun. We will be staying at the Best Western in town. This will be a fun weekend, but you have to sign up by December 10th.
Todd and Lori will also be leading a late February trip to Chestnut Mountain one day and Sundown Mountain the next, staying at the downtown Holiday Inn in Dubuque. There are tons of non-ski activities in Dubuque for everyone.
I spoke on the upcoming ski club board elections. The board asked me to form a nominating committee and find two new board members. Unfortunately, I did not get any commitments. We would like to thank Marty and Bill Clark for deciding to serve another term. Mary Day is retiring form the board after many years of service, the second is a new board member position to help with planning new adventure travel opportunities. It is clear the club really enjoys these types of trips and there is a huge variety available. Please contact me or one of the other board members if you are interested in serving on either the board or the nominating committee. The club needs board members to function and while it is a little work it is gratifying to serve on a volunteer board. Hope to hear from you soon so we can keep our club going strong.
Steve Cummings, your club VP
