March Vice President's Message

Steve Cummings | Published on 2/27/2024

Greetings East Iowa Ski Club members. As club VP I am filling in for our friend Marty as his recovery continues. When this newsletter comes out, we will have 24 EISC members in Telluride, CO, known for some of the best terrain and as one of the most scenic ski areas in the world. I feel incredibly fortunate to be part of a club that goes to such an incredible resort to ski & enjoy the spectacular views. The trip Leaders hope to provide an update with pictures while we are out there.

The February member meeting was fun and it gave everyone a chance to vote for the 2024/25 EISC board of directors. Thanks to the election committee, Rosanne Van Cura and Connie Miller, led by board Secretary, Mary Day for running such a smooth election. We want to also recognize Mary and the door workers who greeted and checked everyone in at the meeting. Lois updated the club on the planned Kentucky Derby themed April 13th Post Party dinner at Lowe Park in Marion that sound like it will be a good time. I was extremely pleased to see prime rib on the menu this year.

Tim Gull reported on the EISC’s first West trip to Beaver Creek, CO. It was a great trip and the reviews reflected what an outstanding job our Trip Leaders did. The club stayed at the Borders ski in/ski out luxury condos, which may have helped the survey ratings. The snow conditions varied some, but the skiing with EISC friends is always fun. Thanks to Ruth Van Tol and Tim Gull for leading this trip to one of our favorite Colorado ski mountains.

Other highlights included Bill Clark’s update on the club’s first try at a cruise trip, Mary’s update on the expanding itinerary of the upcoming Washington DC bus tour. Sandra Cummings reported on the July 20th EISC Golf Outing at Meadowview Golf Course in Central City. Kim Betts described the planned camping/bicycling/exploring weekends at Pulpit Rock campground in Decorah and Howell Station campground on Lake Red Rock, near Pella. We reviewed some of the results of the EISC Adventure Trips surveys and comments that gave the board some direction going into next season.

The Trip Planning Committee will be working with the surveys and planning some different activities for the 2024 / 25 season and beyond.
